Steamy Stuart’s deep-cleans upholstered furniture across Garnet Valley, Delaware County, Chester County, and Wilmington, Delaware. Our IICRC-certified technicians use truck-mounted hot-water extraction calibrated for fabric โ flushing embedded body oils, food residue, dust, and dander out of the fibers and the foam underneath. We clean sofas, love seats, sectionals, chairs, recliners, ottomans, and dining chairs. Standard sofa and love seat cleaning is $149, and most upholstery dries in 1-2 hours.
Couches see more action than almost any other surface in your house. Bodies sit on them eight hours a day. Snacks and drinks land on them. Pets nap on the cushions, then jump down and shake dander into the fabric. Skin oils, sweat, food crumbs, sneezes from cold-and-flu season, dust pulled in by HVAC โ all of it accumulates in the cushions and the foam underneath, and almost none of it comes out with a vacuum.
The result is a sofa that looks tired even when it isn’t, smells faintly stale even after the windows have been open, and contributes to indoor air quality problems your family feels but can’t quite identify. Spot cleaning addresses individual stains; vacuuming pulls surface dust. Neither one reaches the embedded soil and oils trapped deep in the fabric and the foam.
Steamy Stuart’s deep-cleans upholstery using truck-mounted hot-water extraction calibrated for fabric โ pressurized hot water and cleaning solution that penetrate the fabric, lift the embedded residue, and extract it back out. Owner George Stuart and his son Gannon are both IICRC-certified, and we identify your upholstery’s cleaning code before any solution touches it so we don’t damage the fabric. The result is upholstery that looks restored, smells genuinely clean (not perfumed), and feels noticeably better โ usually for less than the cost of replacing a single cushion cover.
Most cleaners use the same wand on couches that they use on carpet. We adjust pressure, chemistry, and technique for fabric โ because the wrong setting on the right couch is how upholstery gets damaged.
Every piece of upholstered furniture sold in the United States has a manufacturer cleaning code printed on a tag โ typically under a cushion or on the underside of the frame. The code tells you (and us) which cleaning methods are safe for that specific fabric. Using the wrong method on the wrong code is how upholstery gets damaged, so this is the first thing we check.
Code W means the fabric can be safely cleaned with water-based solutions. Most modern synthetic upholstery (microfiber, polyester blends, performance fabrics) carries this code, and our standard truck-mounted hot-water extraction is exactly the right method. This is the most common code we encounter.
Code S means the fabric requires solvent-based dry cleaning, not water. Common on linen, certain silks, and some natural-fiber blends. Water on these fabrics can cause shrinking, watermarks, or color bleeding. We don’t dry-clean upholstery, so for Code S pieces we recommend a specialty upholstery dry cleaner. We tell you this during the walk-through before any work begins.
Code WS means the fabric handles both water-based and solvent-based cleaning. We use our standard hot-water extraction on these pieces with confidence. Common on cotton blends and many high-end designer fabrics that are engineered for cleaning flexibility.
Code X is the rarest code and the most restrictive โ it means no liquid cleaning of any kind. The fabric will be damaged by any solution, water-based or solvent. Code X pieces should only be vacuumed and brushed. We don’t accept Code X jobs because there’s no professional cleaning service we can responsibly provide. If you have a Code X piece, we’ll tell you and you’ll save the cost of a job that wouldn’t help.
Every piece of upholstered furniture in your home is a candidate for professional cleaning. We’ve handled all of the categories below across 20 years of Delaware County jobs.
The most common upholstery jobs we do. Standard sofa and love seat cleaning is $149 (cleaned and deodorized). Sectionals are quoted by section โ most modern sectionals run roughly the equivalent of one to one-and-a-half sofas plus a chair, depending on configuration. Whatever you have, we’ll quote it during the walk-through or from a quick photo.
Accent chairs, club chairs, recliners, gliders, and ottomans. Standalone chair cleaning is $39 when added to a sofa-and-love-seat package. Standalone chairs (without other furniture in the same visit) are quoted custom. Recliners with mechanical bases get the same fabric cleaning as standard chairs โ we don’t service the mechanism, only the upholstery.
Upholstered dining chair seats and backs collect more food residue, body oils, and spills than most homeowners realize. We clean dining chairs in sets, typically all at once during a single visit. Pricing is per chair, quoted based on chair count and condition.
Upholstered headboards, bench seating, window seats, banquettes, ottomans, footstools, and decorative chaises. If it’s upholstered and you’d like it cleaned, we can almost certainly do it โ fabric code permitting. Mention what you have when you call and we’ll let you know whether it’s a standard job or a custom quote.
Standard upholstery pricing is flat-rate and includes deodorizing โ no surprise charges, no upselling. Custom situations (large sectionals, multi-room jobs, severe pet damage, dining chair sets) are quoted individually after a walk-through or photo review.
Five steps, in the same order, every time. Step 1 protects your furniture by confirming what we’re working with before any solution touches it.
We locate the manufacturer cleaning code on each piece (typically under a cushion or on the frame underside) and verify it’s compatible with our cleaning method. We also assess condition: visible stains, body-oil discoloration, pet damage, structural wear, or anything fragile. Pieces we can’t clean safely get flagged honestly before we start.
We pre-vacuum the entire piece with an upholstery attachment to lift dry soil, dust, hair, and surface debris. This step matters more on upholstery than carpet because skipping it means embedded dust gets pushed deeper by the wet cleaning step.
Visible stains, body-oil discoloration on armrests and headrests, and high-contact areas get a targeted pre-treatment. We use neutral-pH solutions for most fabrics; the specific chemistry matches the fabric type identified in Step 1. Pre-treatment dwells 5-10 minutes to break down embedded soil before extraction.
Pressurized hot water and cleaning solution injected into the fabric and immediately vacuumed back out through the same wand. Pressure and temperature adjusted lower than carpet settings to protect fabric. Slow, overlapping passes across cushions, arms, back, and under-cushion areas. The extraction step is what flushes embedded soil and oils out of the foam underneath the fabric โ not just the surface.
We position fans on the cleaned upholstery to accelerate drying โ most pieces are touch-dry in 1-2 hours. Before we leave, we walk the piece with you to confirm everything looks right. Any spots that need re-treatment get addressed on the spot. Cushions are flipped or rotated if applicable, and we point out anything you should know about (worn area, structural wear, stain that didn’t fully lift) so you have a complete picture of your piece’s condition.
