Pet Stain & Odor Removal in Delaware County, PA

Steamy Stuart’s removes pet stains and odors from carpets, rugs, and upholstery across Garnet Valley, Delaware County, Chester County, and Wilmington, Delaware. We combine enzymatic pre-treatment — which breaks down the proteins that cause set-in pet odors — with truck-mounted hot-water extraction. The result is genuine removal at the source rather than fragrance covering the smell. Most jobs dry in 4-6 hours.

When You Love the Pet but Not the Smell

Every pet owner knows the moment. You walk into your house after being out for the day, and there it is — that unmistakable smell that wasn’t there yesterday. Or you find the spot where the dog had an accident a week ago that you thought was fully cleaned. Or you’re hosting friends for dinner and you notice them noticing.

Pet stains and odors are different from regular soil. The proteins in pet urine, vomit, and feces bond chemically with carpet fibers and the padding underneath. Surface cleaning leaves them behind — and the moment humidity rises or the carpet gets damp, the smell comes back. Sometimes worse than before.

Steamy Stuart’s removes pet stains and odors at the source, not the surface. Owner George Stuart and his son Gannon are both IICRC-certified, with 20 years of experience treating the worst pet damage homes can produce — across Garnet Valley, Delaware County, Chester County, and Wilmington. We use enzymatic treatment to break down the protein bonds, then truck-mounted hot-water extraction to flush everything out. No fragrance masking. No “it’ll come back next humid day.” Real removal.

Why Pet Owners in Delaware County Choose Steamy Stuart's

Most cleaners treat pet stains the same way they treat coffee spills. The chemistry is completely different — and it’s why most pet odor cleanings don’t last.
  • Enzymatic Treatment, Not Just Fragrance — Pet odor comes from uric acid crystals and protein bonds chemically attached to carpet fibers. Fragrance covers it. Enzymes break it down. We use enzymes specifically formulated for the protein chains in pet urine, vomit, and dander.
  • IICRC-Certified Technicians — George Stuart and his son Gannon are both certified through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, the cleaning industry’s leading credential. Pet stain treatment is part of IICRC’s core curriculum.
  • Sub-Surface Extraction When You Need It — Severe pet damage soaks through the carpet into the padding and sometimes the subfloor. Surface cleaning won’t reach it. Our equipment can perform sub-surface extraction to reach what’s underneath — and we tell you upfront if your situation needs it before we start.
  • Pet-Safe Cleaning Solutions — Every product we use is selected for low toxicity and minimal residue. After the carpet dries (typically 4-6 hours), the area is safe for pets and children. No “keep your pets out for 48 hours” warnings.
  • Honest Assessment — Some pet damage can be fully removed. Some has soaked deep enough that it requires pad replacement. Some old urine has permanently altered the carpet’s color. We assess during the walk-through and tell you the truth — what we can fix, what we can’t, and what your options are.

     • 20 Years, 15,000 Homes — We’ve treated every level of pet damage there is. Single-accident touch-ups, multi-pet           households, rental properties between tenants, severe neglect cases. Whatever you’re dealing with, we’ve seen               worse.

Why Pet Stains Are Different from Every Other Stain

Coffee spills, mud, food stains — all of these sit on top of the carpet. Pet stains don’t. Understanding why is the first step in actually removing them.

Uric Acid Crystals

When pet urine dries, it leaves behind microscopic uric acid crystals that bond chemically with the carpet fiber. Water alone won’t dissolve them. Detergents alone won’t remove them. They stay locked in the fiber until something — humidity, foot traffic, a rainy day — releases them. That’s why pet odor seems to come and go.

Protein Bonds in Vomit and Feces

Pet vomit and feces contain proteins that chemically bond to carpet fibers as they dry. Standard cleaning lifts the visible material but leaves the bonded proteins. Those proteins continue to break down over time, releasing odor. Enzymatic treatment is the only effective way to break those bonds before extraction.

Padding and Subfloor Penetration

Pet urine doesn’t stop at the carpet. It soaks through the backing, into the padding, and sometimes into the subfloor underneath. Surface cleaning addresses 30% of the problem. The other 70% requires sub-surface extraction — flooding the area with treatment solution and extracting it back through the same wand path until the affected layers are saturated and flushed.

Bacteria and Ammonia Off-Gassing

Decomposing pet waste produces ammonia gas and supports bacterial growth. Both contribute to the smell. Both also create indoor air quality issues that can affect respiratory health, especially in homes with kids, elderly residents, or anyone with allergies or asthma. Treating the source removes the gas production at the root.

What We Can Fix. What We Can't.

Pet damage exists on a spectrum. We tell you upfront what’s treatable so you know what to expect — before we start, not after we’ve taken your money.

What We Can Fully Fix

  • Recent pet accidents (within the past few weeks)
  • Surface-level urine, vomit, and feces stains
  • Pet odor in the carpet fibers themselves
  • Set-in odor that’s seasonal/humidity-triggered
  • Multi-pet household maintenance cleanings
  • Move-in and move-out pet-affected carpets (most cases)

What May Need Sub-Surface Extraction or Pad Replacement

Severe urine that has soaked through to the padding

  • Multiple repeat accidents in the same area over months or years
  • Strong ammonia smell that persists in dry conditions
  • Visible yellow or dark staining that has dried for months

What We Honestly Can't Reverse

Permanent fiber color change from concentrated urine (yellow or rust spots that have permanently altered the dye)

  • Bleach damage from previous cleaning attempts
  • Severe subfloor saturation requiring carpet and padding replacement
  • Carpets at the end of their natural lifespan where pet damage is one factor among several
We do a full walk-through before we start. If your situation falls into the third category, we’ll tell you — and we won’t charge you for a job we can’t complete to your satisfaction.

Our Pet Stain & Odor Removal Process — Step by Step

Six steps, in the same order, every time. The first one matters most — it’s where we figure out what we’re actually dealing with.

Step 1 — UV Light Inspection and Walk-Through

Pet urine fluoresces under UV light, even when invisible to the naked eye. We bring a UV inspection lamp and identify every affected area — including spots you didn’t know were there. We also identify the carpet fiber, padding type, and depth of saturation. This is when we tell you what’s treatable and what’s not.

Step 2 — Enzymatic Pre-Treatment

Each identified pet stain gets a targeted enzymatic pre-treatment. The enzymes break down the protein bonds and uric acid crystals that hold the odor in place. Treatment dwells for 10-15 minutes — longer for set-in or repeat-accident areas — to give the enzymes time to do their work before extraction.

Step 3 — Sub-Surface Extraction (Where Needed)

For areas where urine has soaked through to the padding, we use sub-surface extraction equipment. The wand floods the affected area with treatment solution and extracts back through the same path, flushing the padding layer until the extracted water runs clear. This is the step most cleaners skip — and it’s why their treatments don’t last.

Step 4 — Truck-Mounted Hot-Water Extraction

The full carpet then gets cleaned with our standard truck-mounted hot-water extraction process. Pressurized hot water and cleaning solution lift remaining residue, dissolved enzymes, and surface soil. Two slow passes, overlapping, for full coverage.

Step 5 — Deodorizing

After extraction, we apply a final professional deodorizer that neutralizes any remaining trace odor at the molecular level. This isn’t fragrance — it’s a targeted neutralizer. The carpet smells clean, not perfumed.

Step 6 — Final Walk-Through

Before we pack up, we re-inspect with the UV light and walk the space with you. Anything still showing under UV gets re-treated on the spot. The 100% satisfaction guarantee starts here, not with a phone call later.

FAQs

Both — but old stains take more work. Fresh accidents (within a few weeks) usually treat completely with enzymatic pre-treatment and standard hot-water extraction. Older stains, especially repeat accidents in the same spot, often require sub-surface extraction to reach the padding underneath. We assess depth during the walk-through and tell you what your situation actually needs.
Not when the treatment reaches the source. Pet odor that returns in humidity is a sign the original cleaning treated only the surface — uric acid crystals trapped in the padding or backing reactivate when moisture returns. Our process treats the source, not just the surface. If odor does return after our treatment, call us and we come back at no charge.
It depends on severity. For light-to-moderate pet damage, treatment pairs with a standard carpet cleaning package starting at $174 (3 rooms) or $244 (5 rooms). For severe damage requiring sub-surface extraction or pad replacement, we provide custom quotes after a walk-through assessment. Calls and quotes are free.

Yes. We use environmentally responsible, low-toxicity products selected specifically for pet households. Carpets are typically safe for pets and children within 4-6 hours, after they’re dry. We can also use hypoallergenic-only solutions on request.

This is a real concern. Pets are drawn back to areas where they smell their own urine — even traces humans can’t detect. Standard cleaning often leaves enough trace odor that pets continue marking the same spot. Enzymatic treatment removes the molecular signal that calls them back, which is why it both removes the smell AND breaks the marking habit.
A typical pet treatment combined with a standard carpet cleaning takes 2-4 hours, depending on the number of affected areas and the depth of treatment needed. Severe restoration jobs requiring sub-surface extraction in multiple rooms can run longer. We give you an accurate estimate during the booking call.
We do a full walk-through before we start, and we tell you upfront if your situation may not be fully treatable. If we say we can fix it and the smell isn’t gone, we come back at no charge until it is. If the source is sub-floor saturation that requires carpet and pad replacement, we tell you that too — and we don’t charge you for a treatment that won’t solve the problem.
Yes. We’ve treated single-pet homes and homes with five-plus pets, rental properties, foster homes, and breeding setups. The approach scales — heavier treatment, more affected areas, possible sub-surface extraction. Pricing scales with it. The principle stays the same: source removal, not surface masking.
Yes. We treat upholstery, area rugs, stairs, and any soft surface where pets have had accidents. Process is similar — UV inspection, enzymatic pre-treatment, hot-water extraction. Some delicate fabrics or wool rugs require modified technique, which we handle.
We’re headquartered in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania and serve Delaware County, Chester County, and Wilmington, Delaware. Cities served include Aston, Broomall, Glen Mills, Kennett Square, Malvern, Media, Newtown Square, Springfield, and West Chester.

Very happy with my experience. Arrived within my arrival window, were friendly and set expectations. Carpet and furniture look great, house smells amazing, and they even let me know what I can do to speed up dry time with box fans so my dog can lay back down in his favorite spot sooner. Highly recommended!

Quick, friendly, and very fair pricing! They were cheaper than any of the big chains. In fact they were less than half any of the other places I asked and even did a better job than places I have gone to in the past. I had my sofa cleaned and it’s as good as new! Highly recommend to anyone looking for residential cleaning services!
